Dr. Amani Osman

Dr Amani Taha Osman is a Consultant Paediatric Dialectologist at Imperial College London Diabetes centre Al Ain. She graduated from University of Khartoum, Sudan and completed her training in Manchester, United Kingdom . She moved to the UAE in 2010, establishing the Paediatric Diabetes Service at Al Ain Hospital, before taking up her role at ICLDC in 2013.

She set up a state of the art multi-disciplinary insulin pump service at the centre, with a strong emphasis on holistic care and team work, incorporating the latest technology in diabetes. She works to instil values of self worth by empowering and motivating young patients to take ownership and pride in their diabetes care. This is supported by a wonderful team of professionals, including a dynamic clinical psychologist, creating a thriving environment for the children, both at home and at school and by organising regular fun filled social events. Today the insulin pump service at ICLDC is one of the best in the country.

She founded the SUKKAR support group for women and children, which has a mission to eliminate boundaries of shame and stigma surrounding Diabetes in the UAE. She also has an interest in the growing number of cases of type 2 diabetes in children and has made it her mission to promote school outreach programmes that aim to prevent obesity related diseases in children.

Dr. Asma Jasim Binjab

Dr. Asma is a consultant pediatric Endocrinologist, she obtained her Medical degree from Kuwait University, state of Kuwait. She did her Pediatric residency program training at Montreal Children Hospital, McGill University, Canada. Obtained the American and the Canadian board of pediatrics. Dr. Asma continued her fellowship training in pediatric Endocrinology at Montreal Children Hospital, obtained the Canadian Board of Endocrinology and Metabolism in 2012. She is currently working as a consultant pediatric endocrinologist at Dubai Hospital, Dubai Health Authority

Dr. Hanaa Zidan

Dr. Zidan received her undergraduate degree from faculty of Medicine, Jordan University in 1998. She completed pediatric residency at Lincoln Medical and Mental health center, Weill- Cornell Medical College in New York, USA in 2005. She did one year of pediatric chief residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in Chicago, Illinois in from 2005- 2006 and then obtained her pediatric endocrinology fellowship at medical college of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, USA in 2009.

She was appointed as assistant clinical professor and pediatric endocrinologist at children’s Hospital of Michigan, Wayne State University, Michigan, USA from 2009-2014. She joined the American Hospital Dubai since June 2014 till now.

Dr. Zidan is American board certified in pediatrics and pediatric endocrinology. She is an active member of endocrine society and pediatric endocrine society.

Her research interests are vitamin D and obesity and preatherosclerosis in children with type 1 diabetes.

Dr. Kiran Choudhry

Dr. Kiran Choudhry completed her MBBS at the Aga Khan University Medical College in Karachi in 2001. She did her residency in Pediatrics at University of Iowa and West Virginia University, USA. She completed her pediatric endocrine fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas. Prior to joining Tawam Hospital, Dr. Choudhry was an assistant Professor of Pediatrics at University of Missouri, Columbia. She has been working as a consultant physician in Pediatric Endocrinology at the Tawam Hospital in Abu Dhabi, UAE for the last 1 1/2 years. Dr. Choudhry has been a member of the Pediatric Endocrine Society since 2006 and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics since 2008.

Dr. Mireille El Bejjani

Dr. Mireille El Bejjani is a pediatric endocrinologist joining Al Jalila Children’s Hospital in Dubai. Dr. El Bejjani is a graduate of the American University of Beirut School of Medicine in Lebanon. She subsequently completed residency training in general pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit, MI, USA followed by a pediatric endocrinology fellowship at Emory University Medical Center in Atlanta, GA, USA. She holds the American Boards certification in general pediatrics (2014) and pediatric endocrinology (2017).

Dr. Nandu Thalange

Dr. Nandu Thalange is Consultant Paediatric Endocrinology at Al Jalila Children’s and graduated from King’s College, London in 1988, intent on a career in paediatric endocrinology. After junior posts at King’s College Hospital and other hospitals around London, he moved to the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital to take up a research training post in paediatric endocrinology. His research at that time was focused primarily on the physiology of normal and abnormal growth and culminated in 3 significant papers in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, Pediatric Research and Archives of Diseases of Childhood.

After completing his research post, Dr. Nandu moved to East Anglia, completing his training in Norwich and Cambridge, including a year in child public health. In 2002, Nandu took up a post as a Consultant Paediatric Endocrinologist at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital in East Anglia, until he left in April 2017. He ran a large paediatric endocrinology, diabetes and weight management service, including specialist clinics for neurofibromatosis, achondroplasia and bone disease, notably osteoporosis and osteogenesis imperfecta. The diabetes service had over 350 children and adolescents with diabetes (including 60% on insulin pumps), and achieved excellent results in the National Diabetes Audit.

Dr. Nandu has been an investigator in a number of collaborative multicentre research studies, in diabetes and endocrinology, including being chief investigator for the international multi-centre trials that led to the approval of insulin detemir and insulin degludec in children, worldwide. His other research interests include hypertension, (he co-authored a paper on the normal ranges for blood pressure in Great Britain, based on an analysis of over 20000 children and young adults), psychological impacts of disease, epidemiology, and child public health, particularly avoidable child mortality. He is a public speaker and frequently presents to international audiences.

Dr. Sarah Ehtisham

Dr. Sarah Ehtisham is a Consultant Paediatric Endocrinologist and Diabetologist at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, and an Honorary Lecturer at the University of Manchester. She trained in Birmingham and worked as a Consultant in Birmingham and Melbourne before moving to Manchester in 2009. Her PhD on type 2 diabetes, and ethnic variations in insulin resistance and body composition in children has led to publications and further research projects. Dr Ehtisham's clinical interests include non-type 1 diabetes, disorders of sexual development, obesity and its co-morbidities and metabolic bone disease.

Dr. Shadi Tabba

Dr. Shadi Tabba received his medical school training at Jordan University of Science and Technology His Pediatric internship and residency training was at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital, in Iowa City, Iowa in the USA. His Pediatric Endocrinology fellowship training was at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the USA. He then went on to be an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and a clinical pediatric endocrinologist at Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters in Norfolk, Virginia for several years before moving to the United Arab Emirates. He manages all forms of endocrine conditions in pediatrics with specific interest in Obesity and Diabetes technology

Dr. Walid Kaplan

Walid Kaplan is the Chief of Pediatric Endocrinology and Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, UAEU, he previously held the positions of Interim Chief Medical Officer, and Chief Quality Officer at Tawam Hospital, and Assistant Professor Pediatric Endocrinology and Metabolism at the Baylor College of Medicine, Texas Children’s Hospital, Houston, Texas. He is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and Sub-board of Pediatric Endocrinology.

Dr. Kaplan received his medical degree from the School of Medicine, Damascus University. He completed his internship and residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and Michigan State University, and sub-specialty training in Pediatric Endocrinology at Baylor College of Medicine, Texas Children’s Hospital, Houston, Texas.

Dr. Kaplan attends regular pediatric endocrinology and diabetes clinics at Tawam Hospital, and he actively participates in the teaching activities of residents and medical students. He has special interest in the clinical implications of growth hormone, and the effect of fasting on patients with type 1 diabetes. He is a member of AACE, and the Arab Society of Pediatric and Endocrinology Diseases (ASPED).

Dr. Asma Deeb

Asma Deeb is currently the Chief of Paediatric Endocrinology at Mafraq Hospital, Abu Dhabi. She is the Secretary General for the Arab Society of Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes (ASPED).

Dr. Deeb trained in the UK and is a fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, UK. She obtained an medical degree in growth hormone gene expression in 2002 from University of Newcastle. Dr. Deeb was appointed as a Clinical Lecturer in Paediatric Endocrinology at the University of Cambridge between 2001 and 2006 and obtained a CCST in Paediatric Endocrinology. She relocated to the UAE and founded the Paediatric Endocrinology Department at Mafraq Hospital, Abu Dhabi.

Dr. Deeb has special interest in the use of technology in management of diabetes and genetics of diabetes mellitus. She is actively participating in international clinical trials in diabetes and has many publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Elham Al Amiri

Dr. Elham Al Amiri is a Pediatric consultant and chief of diabetes and endocrine unit at Al Qassimi Hospital, Sharjah. Dr. Al Amiri is also an Adjunct Associate Professor in College of Medicine, University of Sharjah. She has obtained her medical degree from King Faisal University in Saudi Arabia, followed by Masters of Science degree in Pediatrics from Trinity College, Dublin and Membership of the Royal College of Pediatrics and Child health (MRCPCH) from UK. She was granted European Society for Pediatric Endocrinology (ESPE) clinical fellowship program in Manchester UK.

She has established the pediatric endocrine and diabetes unit, serving as a referral centre in the Ministry of Health.

In 2009 Dr Al Amiri founded “Friends for Diabetes” a volunteer support society. She is also among the founders and board members of the Arab Society for Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes ASPED, established in 2013.

Dr. Al Amiri is a member of the International Society for Pediatric and Adolescents Diabetes ISPAD, and UAE Endocrine club.

Dr Al Amiri has received several awards for outstanding achievement, such as Sheikh Mohamed bin Rashid government excellence award as best Physician January 2017, best physician award by Al Qassimi Hospital 2016, best physician award by Sharjah Medical district 2016, Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Medical award for distinguished medical professionals in 2014, , Al Qassimi Hospital Excellence Award for distinguished employees in 2011, National Diabetes Guidelines Appreciation Award by UAE Ministry of Health in 2009, Sheikh Rashid Award for Scientific Achievements in 2001 and 2002.
